Geography Paragraph

Chile is a country in southern South America and borders the South Pacific. Its total area is 756102 sq kilometers; about 743,812 sq km is land, and 12,290 sq km is water. Chile borders Argentina, Peru, and Bolivia. Deserts dominate its northern region and are hot and dry; its middle is Mediterranean, and its southern region is cool and damp. Its terrain is diverse, with low coastal mountains, fertile central valleys, and rugged Andes mountains in the east. Because of this, Chile has a very diverse ecosystem. Chile is 4,270 km long! That's 1000 km over how wide the US is. Yet it's only around 100 km wide, that's only a bit more than 62 miles. That's only a bit more than ¼ of a drive from Boston to New York. Although the north is covered by desert, the plants there are extremely unique, especially the plants in the Lomas. In the Lomas, once in a long time, it rains, and in the Lomas, plants that usually never are seen sprout, and when this happens, it's a huge deal. Tens of thousands of people go there when it happens. In the east and south, there are a bunch of ski resorts that people go to, and that is where some pretty famous pictures of skiers were taken. Also, in the Andes region, there are a lot of mines where copper is found, which makes up a large portion of Chile's economy. Farms and large cities dominate the central region because of its fertile land.
